Central Florida blood banks in urgent need of blood donations

OneBlood says blood donors are modern day superheroes and the blood center is celebrating their work to save lives with a special campaign known as There’s a Hero in You in 2022. Right now, local blood banks are in urgent need of blood donations.”The blood supply is tight and it has been because of the pandemic and there’s this constant need for donors to be coming in,” OneBlood spokesperson Susan Forbes said. OneBlood hopes its latest campaign will not only increase donations but also personalize the donation experience with two programs: OneBlood Journey and Message My Donor. “If you donate with OneBlood, you’re going to get a message from us saying when your donation is on the way to help a patient, which hospital it’s going to and for some donors, they may even get a message from the patient that they’re helping save,” Forbes said.Like this note WESH found from a patient: “I simply can’t thank you enough. Your gift of life saved my husband. God Bless.”And this one: “Thank you for donating. I needed a transfusion after the birth of my daughter. Means a lot that you donated.”Now when you give through OneBlood, you know where your blood is going or the patient it’s helping. OneBlood adds you can never have too many superheroes.”Everyday transfusions are taking place in our service area and it’s important that donors continue to come in to replenish the supply. There has to be that ready supply at all times,” Forbes said. To find a OneBlood donor center or a Big Red Bus blood drive, visit their website here.
