The Pittsburgh Penguins were off Saturday — but PPG Paints Arena still had some action on the ice.
Firefighters from Pittsburgh squared off against a team of firefighters from Baltimore — all to benefit the family of a fallen firefighter who died last year.
City of Pittsburgh firefighter Lee Weber died last summer in Erie after drowning while trying to save his youngest son.
Saturday’s hockey game was held to fundraise for Weber’s wife and two children as they try to recover from the tragedy.
Pittsburgh Firefighters Local 1 President Ralph Sicuro said he feels the support from the community.
“That just shows the community out there, the support we get from them as firefighters and we hope that we want to give it back to the community as well,” Sicuro said at the event.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support Weber’s family.
