Meriden Couple Faces Animal Abuse Charges: Report

MERIDEN, CT — A Meriden couple faces animal abuse charges after two of their dogs died and four more dogs were found in filthy conditions, according to The Meriden Record-Journal. Melissa Copeland, 47, and John Hedlund, 48, both of 21 Foster St., were charged with four counts of animal cruelty and prohibited means of tethering dog.

One of the dogs, a Great Dane, died in December due to emaciation, dehydration, a lung lesion, and possible pneumonia, The Meriden Record-Journal reported. Copeland also dropped off another dead Great Dane at a veterinarian in November.
