OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man who went missing in January during a business trip to New Orleans was found dead over the weekend, according to local organizers who led a search for the man and officials.

Jackson resident, 33-year-old Michael “Mordy” Gelfand, was found in the Mississippi River near Third Street in New Orleans on Friday, Nathan Ginsbury, organizer of the search group said.

The father of four went missing on Jan. 5 after he told his wife he was going to New Orleans for a one-night business trip, Pix 11 reported. Gelfand texted his wife, Devorah, on Jan. 6 to tell her he was on his way home but he never made it, the report said.

The details about Gelfand’s cause of death have yet to be released and Yeshiva World News said Gelfand was “confirmed to have been involved in a terrible mishap that cost him his life.”

Local organizers flew down south to assist with the search with one Long Island group offering a $10,000 reward for his safe return.

“He was found. There’s nothing more I can say,” Ginsbury told NJ.com.

A funeral for Gelfand was held in New Jersey on Tuesday morning.
