STOLEN: Thieves take local church’s truck used for missions across the country

TULSA, Okla. — A truck used by the First Methodist Church Men’s Mission team has been stolen.

“Big Red” was taken from the Tulsa Hill Shopping Center last month.

“It really is ‘Big Red.’ It’s 12 feet long. Most truck beds are six feet. You’d immediately think it’s a fire engine,” said Mike Brady. Brady is one of the members of the mission team.

“It’s been parked all over the country, overnight, in dangerous crime areas. It was never touched,” said Brady.

Until now.

Brady says that two people broke into the truck and drove off. “At 2:30 in the afternoon. It was Saturday March 26th in broad daylight. Two guys walked up to it like they owned it, looked underneath it, in two minutes it was gone,” said Brady.

Brady has been working on an itemized sheet of what tools were inside the truck.

The truck has lockers all around it. Inside the lockers, tools the team uses to go in and rebuild homes ravaged by tornadoes and flood waters across the country. ‘Big Red’ has been essential for us to be able to put tools and materials on and also load up and haul stuff,” said Brady.

Ken Shoemaker is also on the mission team. He says even though the tools could be long gone, he’s still hopeful that Big Red is found in good shape for its next mission in December.

“If there’s anyway you can put that truck in a place where it can be found, that’ll be very thoughtful of you,” said Shoemaker.

There is a $5,000 reward for the return of the truck. You can call Mike Brady at 918-640-7350 or Ken Shoemaker at 918-406-6099.
