Local K9 unit dog Lincoln nominated for national hero award

SEATTLE — Lincoln, a K9 member of King County Search Dogs, was nominated for the American Humane Hero Dog of the Year award for finding an elderly at-risk person last year.

After he was deployed on the King County search and rescue team last year, he found an 87-year-old in a Seattle suburb, helping the subject reunite with her family after a search that spanned less than 15 minutes.

King County Search Dogs says Lincoln was destined to save lives because his own life was saved. Lincoln was not breathing when he was born but was saved by helper in what the group calls the “kiss of life.”

Lincoln, a 5-year-old flat-coated retriever, has national certifications in wilderness airscent and human-remains detection. He has been deployed throughout Washington state on urban, water, forest and alpine searches from the shores of Puget Sound to the crest of the Cascade Mountains.

You can vote for Lincoln online at KOMO Hotlinks. The winner will be announced in November.
