MADISON, Wis. — Madison police took a girl into custody earlier this week after she reportedly tried exchanging a stolen dog for a reward offered by the dog’s owners.
Authorities started searching for Malloy, a 10-week-old brown-and-white Boston Terrier, after his owner’s car was stolen on Madison’s east side on Thursday.
Police found the stolen vehicle earlier this week, but Malloy wasn’t inside at the time.

According to an incident report, Malloy’s owners offered up a reward for their dog and were eventually contacted. Malloy’s owners then set up a transaction to happen Tuesday afternoon at West Towne Mall, with the help of local police.
After the exchange happened, police took the juvenile female into custody on a tentative charge of receiving stolen property. It’s unclear if the juvenile taken into custody was responsible for the original car theft or stealing the dog.
Police said their investigation is ongoing.
