Artois man arrested for alleged animal cruelty, threats

RED BLUFF —  Glenn Investigations and Narcotics Task Force arrested 30-year-old Ricardo Garcia of Artois Friday for allegations of animal cruelty and criminal threats in relation to a social media post.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s Department became aware of a social media post Thursday in which Garcia recorded himself killing and mutilating a live animal, according to a press release issued Friday by the department. Garcia made repeated threats to United States military personnel and the President of the United States of America as he was committing the act.

Orland Police Department stopped and detained Garcia on County Road 16 at Interstate 5 in relation to the investigation, the release said. Agents responded and arrested Garcia for felony animal cruelty and criminal threats. They transported and booked Garcia into the Glenn County Jail without incident.

The sheriff’s department will forward the case to the Glenn County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Garcia was previously booked into the Glenn County Jail on Jan. 30 for a robbery that occurred at the Mar Val Grocery Store in Willows, the release said. He was out of jail and on supervised release during the commission of this incident.
