The reward for any information about copper being stolen from highway lights in Louisville has just gone up.It was previously $2,500, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has upped the reward to $5,000 as of Tuesday.Photos of the suspects have been released and can be seen below:Officials say that Louisville has been hit particularly hard, with nearly 18 miles’ worth of copper being stripped from light poles and junction boxes. They say the damage estimate is around $380,000.This is something that transportation officials are saying will cost Kentucky taxpayers.”Stealing copper is a crime that victimizes all Kentucky taxpayers,” KYTC Secretary Jim Gray said in a news release. “Stolen wiring has to be replaced, broken lighting systems have to be repaired, and it’s the taxpayers who are left with the bill.”Officials ask that anyone with information about the thefts call the KYTC Office of Inspector General at 502-330-7506. They also say to report any dark intersections to the KYTC Operations Center at 877-367-5982.
