7 handguns stolen from Richton store Monday, Perry Co. Sheriff’s Dept. investigating

PERRY COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Surveillance video inside Two Rivers in Richton appears to show the moment thieves broke in, reportedly stealing seven guns.

Now, Perry County Sheriff Mitch Nobles worries about where those weapons are.

“It’s not the gun that kills, it’s the person behind the gun,” said Nobles. “Unfortunately, sometimes when they’re stolen, they end up in the wrong hands. They end up in the wrong hands and they’re used again for different types of crimes and murder is the worst one they’re used for.”

Nobles said a lot of times the guns are sold immediately.

The firearms are now listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center database.

“It’s a database that we enter all stolen items, whether it’s a firearm or vehicle, and, so law enforcement or anybody comes into contact with this gun or these stolen weapons, then run the serial number from that weapon it would automatically come back as a hit, showing that this has been stolen and gives you what agency it was stolen from,” Nobles said.

The department is asking people to come forward with information.
