TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — The HSSA Board of Directors announced this weekend that they have launched an independent investigation of the ongoing missing-animal battle.
Last month, more than 300 small animals were transferred from the San Diego Humane Society to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
HSSA says it transferred all 318 animals to an unnamed rescue in Phoenix, and that 250 have found new homes, but the SDHS and many animal activists are not buying it.
Since the alleged “transfer,” the SDHS and animal activists have been demanding HSSA provide verifiable proof that those 250 animals are safe and healthy.
In their announcement of the investigation, the HSSA maintains it did nothing wrong.
On the other hand, the board has also announced the suspension of both CEO Steve Farley and Chief Programs Officer Christian Gonzalez pending the results of the investigation.
Dr. Gary Weitzman, President of the San Diego Humane Society spoke out saying they are looking at all options after getting a legal response from HSSA this week.
The HSSA accused San Diego Humane Society of starting a media fiasco and spreading falsehoods. The HSSA claimed it has no responsibility to prove where the animals went.
