A farmer died after getting trapped in a grain silo at a Brighton farm Tuesday afternoon according to the Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department.
Kansasville emergency responders were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. for a report of an “elderly male subject stuck inside a silo” in the 1500 block of 240th Avenue according to information from the department.
Numerous departments responded to the incident including the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, Salem Lakes Fire and Rescue, Bristol Fire Department, Somers Fire Department, the South Shore Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team and the Kenosha County Special Rescue Team.
Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Colin Coultrip said the caller reported a farmer had gone to the top of the silo to help guide the silage as it was filling the structure, but others on site had lost contact with him.

The first two deputies on scene took off their equipment vests and belts so they could climb up the small silo ladder to rescue the trapped male. The silo was about 100 feet tall and was filled to maximum capacity with silage at the time. The deputies entered the silo along with a neighbor in an attempt to save the trapped farmer.
Deputies found the farmer buried in the silage and after several minutes of digging, pulled him out and laid him on top of the silage to begin CPR and attach an automated external defibrillator.
“Unfortunately, life-saving measures were not successful, and the trapped farmer was located deceased,” Coultrip said.
Emergency crews began efforts to recover the victim and remove him from nearly 100 feet up, according to a Kansasville social media post. The scene was cleared at about 4:15 p.m.
At press time, the identity of the victim had not being released.
