Albany man charged with cruelty to animals, accused of locking them in a crate for weeks

A 32-year-old Albany man is facing animal cruelty charges following an investigation into two dogs locked in a crate for several weeks.

On the evening of October 27, officers responded to a residence on the 100 block of Lark Street for reports of two pit bulls that had been locked in a crate for several weeks without food or water. Arriving officers located both dogs inside a crate. One dog was discovered to be dead, and the other was suffering from severe emaciation and dehydration.

The City of Albany’s Animal Control unit responded to the scene and transported the female dog to the Animal Hospital. She was evaluated, and was later euthanized due to the severe injuries she sustained.

Investigators from the Special Operations Unit are responsible for investigating incidents of animal cruelty. Through their investigation, they were able to identify 32-year-old Andrew Pulliam of Albany as the suspect in this incident.

Pulliam has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on November 10, 2023.
