Local 7-Year-Old Recognized as a Hero for Helping 2-Year-Old Who Fell in Pool

UTICA, N.Y. — A National Youth Hero Award was presented to a 7-year-old from Utica.

The American Legion in North Utica recognized Robbie Palmieri III as a youth hero for his actions over the summer.

Robbie is the grandson of Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri.

His quick thinking saved a 2-year-old girl who ventured from the swimming pool steps and went directly into the water on July 4.

“I see her drowning,” Robbie said.

“She touched the ground. So, I went down as hard as I could. I used all my strength to push the water away until I got her up, and her mom came to the pool. Then I brought her to her,” the 7-year-old said.
