A Bridgeport man previously convicted of murder has pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm.
Ortexis Ramos, 34, struck a plea deal Wednesday in federal court in Hartford, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. He pleaded guilty during the hearing to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to federal officials, Ramos was found with a gun after he fled a traffic stop in Bridgeport on Sept. 16, 2022.
Federal officials said local police pulled over an unregistered vehicle at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Walnut Street in Bridgeport and ordered Ramos, a passenger, out of the car. He fled the area and was apprehended not far away, officials said.
A search revealed Ramos had a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm semiautomatic handgun on him, according to officials.
Ramos is barred from owning or possessing guns or ammunition after he was convicted of murder in 2005 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, federal officials said.
Ramos, who has been in custody since his arrest in September 2022, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 29, 2024. He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
