Orangeburg man guilty of ill-treatment of animals

An Orangeburg man pleaded guilty to ill-treatment of animals in general.

John Edda Glover Jr., 64, of 921 Woods St., entered his guilty plea before Circuit Judge Heath P. Taylor during a recent term of court held at the Orangeburg County Courthouse.

Taylor sentenced Glover to three years in prison. Because Glover already spent one day in jail, his term was suspended to probation for one year.

Glover was also charged with animal fighting/baiting, but that charge was dismissed.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Glover’s property after a security video allegedly showed him encouraging his pit bull to attack a dog sleeping on his lawn on June 13, 2023.

Investigators claimed the video showed Glover trying to get his own dog to attack the stray one using statements like, “Get him, kill him, (expletive) him up!”
