Three suspects in custody after stealing a police vehicle and then crashing into two additional police cars in Fairfax County

Police provided pictures of the suspects who were inside a stolen car at the mall.

FAIRFAX, Va. — The Fairfax Police Department informed the community three suspects were taken into custody after stealing a police vehicle, then sparking a pursuit and subsequently crashing two additional police cars in Fair Oaks. 

The Crashes

On June 21, around 11:35 a.m., Fair Oaks officers responded to a stolen 2010 Toyota Corolla car report near the Fair Oaks Mall. One of the officers located the vehicle at the mall parking with three people inside. Police stated, that a male individual driver, Kenton Smith, 46, of no fixed address, tried to exit the stolen vehicle. 

Then, police reports stated the officer tried to stop Smith and another male passenger identified as Eric Gutierrez, 30, of Ashland, but Gutierrez exited the stolen vehicle and “stole the officer’s cruiser.”

In due course, authorities determined Gutierrez did not stop for officers, and a “short pursuit started.” Amid the chase, Gutierrez crashed into two additional police cruisers, and thereafter, was taken into custody. Gutierrez and two police officers reported non-life-threatening injuries.

The Suspects

Gutierrez was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of Grand Larceny – Auto Theft, Grand Larceny, Felony Speed to Elude, and served with two outstanding warrants. He is currently being held on no bond. A mugshot will be provided soon by police.

The two other suspects, the one mentioned earlier, Kenton Smith; and Natrua Mayfield-Jackson,28 , of Maryland were taken into custody at the mall. 

Natrua Mayfield-Jackson:

Natrua was taken to the Adult Detention Center and served with two outstanding warrants. She was held on no bond.

Kenton Smith:

Kenton was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with Unauthorized Use and Grand Larceny. Kenton Smith was held on a $4,000 secured bond.
