Kyle man convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, witness tampering

A Kyle man was convicted of four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, one count of abusive sexual contact and one count of witness tampering after a two-day jury trial on July 2.

Lloyd Elk, 47, was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024. He faced the possibility of a mandatory minimum penalty of 30 years up to life in custody for aggravated sexual abuse of a minor. Abusive sexual contact carries any term of years up to life; and witness tampering carries a maximum penalty of 20 years.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office, evidence presented at trial showed Elk sexually abusing a five to seven-year-old girl several times.

Elk had allegedly controlled the victim and her family for years through domestic violence, including physical and emotional abuse. He would threaten the victim if she were to ever reveal the sexual abuse, he would kill her and her family, according to the release.

The victim had come forward about the abuse in late 2023. It was later revealed Elk had sexually abused another young girl in 1998 – while employed as a police officer in Idaho – and made similar threats to her to keep her quiet.

Elk’s sentencing date has been set for Oct. 2, 2024.
