$2,000 reward offered after shooting kills 1 in Deaf Smith County

A $2,000 reward is being offered for the location and arrest of a suspect in a fatal shooting in Deaf Smith County on Monday afternoon.

Between 3 and 4 p.m. Sept. 2, “there was a confrontation between two individuals that resulted in one of the individuals retrieving a firearm from his pickup,” according to a news release from the Deaf Smith County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook. “He then proceeded to return to the location and began firing the pistol at the other person. The victim died at the scene. The suspect then fled the scene in a Tan Ford Ranger.”

The suspect has been identified as Jesus Barrera Gonzalez, 65. He is described as 5’08” tall, with gray/brown hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Deaf Smith County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for the “arrest and apprehension of the suspect,” the sheriff’s office stated. Those who may have information about Gonzalez’ whereabouts are asked to contact law enforcement at 806-344-2583.
