Wabash Valley Recovery Center organizes local Save-a-Life Day – will provide free naloxone and connections to resources

WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTHI) – On September 26, over 30 states will be hosting free naloxone/Narcan events for Save-a-Life Day.

The Wabash Valley Recovery Center is the organizer for the local Save-a-Life Day across the Wabash Valley. On Thursday, 6 locations across Vigo, Parke, Vermillion, and Clay Counties will have volunteers providing free Narcan to the community. Wabash Valley Recovery Center will be partnering with Anabranch Recovery Center and Hamilton Center.

On September 26, over 30 states will be hosting free naloxone/Narcan events for Save-a-Life Day.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is an easy to use nasal spray that reverses opioid overdoses. It was approved for over-the-counter distribution in 2023.

“Overdose rates nationwide have increased significantly over the past several years, however a handful of states, including Indiana, have seen a 15% decrease in overdose deaths over the past year. The state of Indiana is one of the states leading the nation in accessibility to naloxone and I believe the decrease in overdose deaths are directly attributed to this. Events like Save a Life Day help get naloxone into the hands of people who need it to save lives” says Christy Heyen, Executive Director of the Wabash Valley Recovery Center.
