Police find body of missing woman in suitcase while clearing Seattle homeless encampment

SEATTLE, Wash. (WJW) – Washington State Police found the remains of a woman who had been missing for nearly a year in a suitcase while clearing a homeless encampment in Seattle.

According to a press release from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Washington State Patrol, the human remains were found on September 27 just after 9 a.m. at the junction of Interstate 5 and Interstate 90 in Seattle.

After being taken to the medical examiner, the remains were identified as 37-year-old Shannon Reeder, who was living in the area at the time of her death.

According to the release, the last confirmed sighting of Reeder was in November of 2023.

Reeder’s out-of-state family has been notified.

According to the release, state and local workers, as well as local nonprofits, were helping encampment residents and clearing the site when the discovery was made.

Detectives are working to put together a timeline of events prior to her death and the discovery of her remains.
