SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) — A southern Indiana mother has been missing since September. Local law enforcement is calling her disappearance a “baffling case” because there are no leads.
Amanda Martin of Scottsburg has long brown hair and light eyes.
“I do think it’s very, very suspicious that all of her things were still there,” Mariah Martin said. “It doesn’t feel real, honestly.”
It’s been nearly two months since Mariah Martin last spoke to her mother, Amanda, whom she describes as “very loving” and “very caring.”
Amanda Martin was last seen September 13, 2024. She was staying in a recreational vehicle (RV) with a friend on Frog Pond Rd., just a few miles outside of Scottsburg, Indiana.
Her family says that friend ran to the store. When he returned, Amanda was nowhere to be found.
“The camper that she had been staying in was a mess, and the window unit had been kicked out,” Mariah said. “She doesn’t usually leave without her false teeth, shoes, or her wallet with all of her cards in it. That is very concerning.”
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said it has spent thousands of man-hours searching for her in the dense woods nearby. Deputies have used everything from cadaver dogs to drones with no luck.
“We’ve done every search possible,” Sheriff Jerry Goodin said. “She didn’t get reported to us until September 24, so there was an 11 day lapse before we knew that she was missing.”
Sheriff Goodin said it’s rare for people in Scott County to go missing for this long, and the leads have all dried up.
“This is a true mystery here that we’ve got,” Goodin said. “We can’t find her. We can’t find any evidence of where she’s been. She was last seen walking down the road, and then, poof.”

Her family said there are many aspects of her disappearance that are puzzling.
“It was a gravel road and a gravel driveway, but her shoes were still there,” Marsha Helton, Amanda’s aunt, said. “It’s troubling to me.”
The Martin family is now offering $1,500 reward to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the mother of three. They hope to bring her home to her six-year-old son.
“We really just want to know where she’s at, what happened, and if she’s okay,” Mariah said.
