CHICAGO, IL — Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons who shot an off-duty Chicago police officer on Monday afternoon.
The off-duty police officer was stopped at a traffic light in the 8900 block of Stony Island when a vehicle pulled up behind his personal car, police said. Two people got out and started firing into the officer’s car, hitting him in the abdomen. Shot-spotter alerts notified three officers who are credited for their quick actions in transporting the injured officer to the University of Chicago Hospital and Trauma Center.
The injured officer’s name is not being released at the request of his family. CPD Supt. David Brown said the officer is well-liked and assigned to the CPD 4th District.
