$2,500 reward offered for identity of vandals at Breonna Taylor basketball court
Less than one week after it was officially dedicated, Louisville Metro Police are asking for the public’s help in finding who vandalized the Breonna Taylor basketball court at Lannan Park. Newly released surveillance video from officials shows the suspects responsible for the vandalism. The incident happened on June 9. Cameras show two suspects, one of which is on a mini-bike, one suspect begins revving the bike leaving tire marks where the mural was painted. According to officials, an anonymous donor has offered a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the two in the video. The court was formally dedicated a few weeks back, after coordination by Councilwoman Donna Purvis, the Russ Smith Foundation, Metro Parks, and a team of muralists as a memorial to remember Taylor’s life. “It’s very disappointing and heartbreaking that other people of the community would go to this length to say a Black woman’s life didn’t matter, a woman who still deserves justice today. But know that you did not hurt Breonna, the system already did that. What you did was hinder the healing process going on in the city. I hope that when you are caught you face charges for your heinous acts and you know you failed the city and the community with your disregard for a Black life, a woman’s life, a life that has brought this city and its communities together like never before,” says Tamika Palmer, Breonna Taylor’s mother.”Love always prevails over hate and we won’t allow any hateful actions to deter our mission to promote a community of love, equality, and co-existence,” says Russ Smith. Louisville Metro Police are asking anyone with any information to call the Tip Line at 502-582-CLUE (2583)
