A $20,000 reward is being offered in the hopes someone can find the three men who stole a truck full of copper from a Muskogee scrap yard, Wheeler Metals.
Surveillance video shows a bright yellow truck pull through one of the entrances to Wheeler Metals Friday around 8:30 p.m. Two men then head for an enclosed trailer full of copper, attach the trailer to the truck, and drive off in less than 30 minutes.
“This is a substantial amount of copper – it’s a big deal,” said Muskogee County Undersheriff Greg Martin. He said they are looking for three men, two who were in the yellow truck, and one who was a lookout and driving a dark green Range Rover.
“They went directly to that trailer, that’s the first clue. They had some knowledge of what was going on in Wheeler Metal and had some knowledge on how to be successful in committing this crime,” Martin said.
Cameras captured the man who was the lookout parked here across the street at The Barking Frog convenience store. He watched the entrances while the theft happened and was caught on camera himself. The video shows the man going into the convivence store.
“I don’t think this is the first time, that they are matter of fact just not normal run-of-the-mill folks – they seem like they have done this before,” Martin said.
After the theft, surveillance video at Wheeler Metals shows the truck and the range rover go north on Highway 69.
“So, we are just hoping that maybe something can be done, and we can put the breadcrumbs together and be successful in our arrest and conviction of these guys,” said Martin.
