A reward is now being offered in the bus stop shooting death of Tyree Smith in the Russell neighborhood. It was announced Thursday that $10,000 will be offered for information that leads to the arrest of the killer or killers. Pastor Corrie Shull said the money was raised by multiple local clergymen.”While we cannot rid our city entirely of the violence that is plaguing us, we will do all that is within our power to ensure children … can at least stand at school bus stops safely,” Shull said. News of the reward comes just after WLKY learned that the stolen Jeep observed at the scene had been found, although its occupants, who police say are wanted for questioning, still have not been identified. The Jeep was found in St. Matthews around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, and was on fire. The bus stop shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday — at least one person fired shots into a crowd of students waiting to go to Eastern High School. The shots came from a vehicle, but police have not said if that vehicle is the Jeep they had been searching for.The boy who died in the shooting is 16-year-old Tyree Smith. A second student shot, a 13-year-old boy, was taken to Kosair with non-life-threatening injuries. A 14-year-old girl was grazed, police said, and was treated at the scene. Chief Erika Shields did say they have gotten several tips.Anyone with information on the shooting should call police at 502-574-LMPD.
