A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or people who stole 50 guns from a South Windsor shipping company in mid-August.
The guns arrived at R+L Carriers’ depot at 540 Sullivan Ave. in South Windsor at 12:50 p.m. on Aug. 13 and were loaded into a “trap trailer,” or waiting compartment, authorities say. The pallet of guns was discovered missing on Aug. 16.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are each offering to pay half of the $10,000 reward.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact investigators immediately by calling 860-935-8080 or 888-ATF-TIPS (888-283-8477) or by sending an email to ATFTips@atf.gov.
Tips can also be sent anonymously via the “reportit” app using ATF Boston Field Division as the location. The app is available through the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and at
“A person who uses criminal means to obtain a firearm is someone who needs to be brought to justice, and firearms obtained illegally are almost certainly destined to be used for criminal purposes,” said Special Agent in Charge James M. Ferguson of ATF in Boston. “It is ATF’s top priority to make sure our communities stay safe and that businesses can operate without fear of incidents like this occurring.”
The reward is part of a larger national initiative by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and ATF in which the foundation matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers.
