$10K reward offered after 50 guns stolen from South Windsor store

SOUTH WINDSOR — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $10,000 reward for information related to the theft of 50 firearms from R+L Carriers in South Windsor.

Officials are still searching for those involved in the incident, which occurred Aug. 13. The thief or thieves used a “trap trailer” to steal a pallet of 50 firearms that had been delivered to R+L Carriers around 12:50 a.m., according to the ATF.

The pallet had been scanned by a manager before it was loaded into the trap trailer, or waiting compartment. It was later discovered missing on Aug. 16.

“A person who uses criminal means to obtain a firearm is someone who needs to be brought to justice and firearms obtained illegally are almost certainly destined to be used for criminal purposes,” said James Ferguson, ATF Boston Special Agent in Charge, in a release. “It is ATF’s top priority to make sure our communities stay safe and that businesses can operate without fear of incidents like this occurring. We are asking that members of the public who may know something about this incident or the whereabouts of these firearms to come forward.”

The ATF is working in conjunction with detectives from the South Windsor police department to investigate the theft. The reward is for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or people responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 860-935-8080 or by email to ATFTips@atf.gov.
