BERKELEY — A $50,000 reward is being offered by the city for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the hit-and-run death in June of a man run over as he was lying in the roadway on Telegraph Avenue, authorities said.
The victim, Charles Feezel, 50, died June 26 from injuries suffered June 14.
Feezel was run over about 9:36 p.m. June 14 on Telegraph Avenue between Webster Street and Ashby Avenue, outside a market.
Authorities said Feezel had a history of mental health issues and was experiencing a mental health crisis when he laid down in the roadway.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle to police as a lowered, dark-color mid 90s sedan with tinted windows, possibly a Nissan Altima. It was last seen driving northbound into Berkeley. A description of the driver has not been released. The vehicle and suspect still had not been located as of Wednesday, police said.
In a news release announcing the reward, police said they are asking for the public’s assistance to provide information about the death “and bring some closure to the victim’s family. “Even the smallest detail could be critical in solving this crime,” the release said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Berkeley police traffic unit at 510-981-5980.
