A resident of Van Riebeeckshof near Welgemoed in Bellville is offering a reward of R1 500 for the safe return of her missing parakeet – “no questions asked”.
Lauren Allan, the pet owner, says her male ringneck parakeet, Vida, went missing on Tuesday 11 May. The nearly four-year-old bird is mostly green in colour with yellow mottled into his back wings, with grey tips on the wings and tail.
In January this year TygerBurger reported on the lost parrot Ash, which belongs to Lisa Cooper, a Bothasig resident. The parrot was found with the help of the newspaper and Allan says she hopes she may also have such luck.
Details of Vida and his owner was also shared on social media, but to no avail.
Allan says her pet, which was purchased as a standard olive ringneck, turned out to be a mixed mutation. The bird is able to cover a 10km radius.
“He is a beautiful bird. I have flight trained him and after a series of unfortunate events, and in my absence, my nanny forgot to close his food door and he managed to escape.
“I have tried everything and walked many kilometres trying to find him. With not one positive sighting, I believe someone has him.
“He is incredibly tame and unlike most of his species, very quiet.
“His mutation coupled with his training means he is an ideal bird for a family and my worry is someone has decided to keep him,” Allan says.
