Cops seeking owner of dog found dead in woods in West Milford. Reward offered.

A local animal shelter is offering a $1,000 reward as West Milford police look for the owner of a dog found dead in the woods last week.

The young, male Husky was found Thursday 10 feet into a wooded area off of Clinton Road near Schoolhouse Cove Road, West Milford police said Wednesday.

“Due to the manner in which the dog was found this is being investigated as a criminal matter,” police said in a statement.

The dog was black and white and is not believe to be neutered. He was wearing a large, black nylon collar with yellow and blue bungee cord hooked to it. The dog was not microchipped and there were no identification tags on his collar, police said.

Police added they have checked regional animal shelters, veterinarians and missing dog listings. The reward is being offered by the West Milford Animal Shelter Society.
