Detectives: Beheaded chickens, dove, and rooster left at cemeteries may be ‘ritualistic sacrifice’

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (WKRC) – An investigation is underway after a series of gruesome discoveries were made at cemeteries in New York.

The Suffolk County SPCA says it was informed on Nov. 8 of a bag found at the Union Cemetery entrance, containing a beheaded chicken and chunks of coconut.

Detectives responded to the location, and upon investigation, reportedly located a goat skull and several other fruits and vegetables.

“These finding are indicative of animal sacrifice, which involves the killing and offering of an animal as part of a religious ritual,” the SPCA said in a press release.

The organization was also called to the cemetery on Oct. 17 after someone discovered a beheaded chicken, black rooster, and white dove arranged in circular pattern.

Roy Gross, the Suffolk County SPCA chief, says two decapitated chickens were found in front of a headstone at the Old Baptist Cemetery back in August, as well.

The SPCA is now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible for these “barbaric acts.”

“All too many times, these gruesome finds are discovered not only by adults, but occasionally by children,” the release states. “These acts of violence must stop now!”
