Kittens, pregnant dog rescued from Fort Worth house fire

Fort Worth firefighters performed life-saving measures on two kittens and a pregnant dog after a house fire.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Two newborn kittens and a pregnant dog were rescued from a North Texas house fire.

Fort Worth firefighters pulled the animals to safety while putting out a house fire in the 4800 block of Arbor Street.

Fire officials say they pulled two newborn kittens from the home while their frightened mother ran off. Firefighters gave the kittens oxygen until they were able to breathe again on their own.

As crews made their way into the home, they also found a large pregnant dog. They pulled the soon-to-be-mother, who was suffering from smoke inhalation, from the home. FWFD says after an entire bottle of oxygen, crews were able to get her back to normal breathing.

Thankfully, Fort Worth FD says the kittens’ mother returned. All the animals were taken to Fort Worth Animal Control for additional care and monitoring, FWFD says.

Due to water and smoke damage in the home, three people were displaced and are receiving aid from the Red Cross. None of the homeowners were injured.

According to Fort Worth FD, one of the responding firefighters received minor injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
