Mar. 28—The president of PETA is getting involved in a suspected animal cruelty case in Central Kentucky.
A Jessamine County cat was found dead after being shot by a dart, and now PETA President Ingrid Newkirk is offering a $5,000 reward for information about the killing of the cat in a residential area of Nicholasville.
According to Jessamine County Animal Care & Control, a family found their cat, George, dead under their home on Applegrove Drive four days after it had gone missing. George was shot with a 6-inch hunting dart and the family believes the suspect trespassed in order to kill the cat.
Police are investigating a similar incident on Strawberry Lane, an adjacent road. That case stems from 2020, but investigators have no leads in either case.
PETA has asked for the public’s help to prevent more violent attacks.
“It’s critical to find these cats’ killer for their sake, but as criminologists know, people who pick on defenseless animals usually don’t stop there,” Newkirk said in a statement. “PETA urges anyone with information to come forward and for people to keep their cats inside where it’s safe.”
