Pit Bull Thrown From Vehicle In Edison, Police Seek Suspect

EDISON, NJ — A 4-year-old pit bull was recently thrown out of a truck in Edison, police said. The dog named Winter is paralyzed in her hind limbs, and police believe this could be the likely reason she was abandoned.

A reward of $750 is being offered by Somerset County S.P.C.A. and the Edison P.B.A. Local 75 for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect. A GoFundMe page has now been set up to help Winter with recovery.

On Jan. 21, construction workers saw a truck drive to a park, throw a pit bull out and drive away. One of the workers picked up the dog and brought her to the Edison Animal Shelter, where they found she was unable to use her hind legs, according to the GoFundme page.

She was taken to Garden State Veterinarians. Vets discovered that Winter was paralyzed in her back legs likely due to a slipped disc. She was taken for surgery on Jan. 25 and veterinarians removed two tumors that were pressing against her spine causing paralysis, said the manager of the shelter.

“We have sent the tumors out for biopsy to determine whether or not they are cancerous. Although Winter’s surgery was a success, she still has a long way to go,” the manager said on GoFundMe.

The shelter is also looking for a foster/and or permanent family for Winter. Those interested in fostering Winter can fill out this form: hharteam.org

Meanwhile, those interested in contributing to the police reward can contact the Community Oriented Policing Unit at COP@edisonpd.org.

Anyone with information on Winter can contact Detective Ankur Mankad at (732) 248-7467 or Detective Nick Parenty at 732-248-7458.
