At about 9:14 a.m. Friday, officials say officers served a search and seizure warrant at Kica’s property located at 11341 Highway 221 in Woodruff. The 10 arrest warrants served on Kica were for violations of state law regarding ill-treatment of animals.

Also as a result of the seizure, 35 Arabian-breed horses were seized from Kica’s property by both environmental enforcement officers and with the help of volunteers from 11 equine rescue groups.

Kica is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

“Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement Department is grateful for the volunteers that showed up — especially grateful for the ones that worked all day to safely and humanely remove the horses,” James Nelson II, director of Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement Department, said in a statement Friday, June 10.
