Police say the suspect followed a 41-year-old woman after she was on her way to work in Center City, around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. He then knocked her to the ground and raped her, authorities say.
The woman had just gotten off the subway at 15th Street.
Police released surveillance video of the suspect running away.
“Anyone who knows this individual, who has encountered him before, would absolutely recognize him from the imagery we provided, we would certainly understand why someone would want to furnish that information but would want to do it anonymously,” Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said.
Some women are taking extra precautions when walking through Love Park after work.
“A lot of times I’m paired up with my co-worker,” Beverly Ford-Green said.
“Feels like a safe place but sad it can happen anywhere,” Diane Menio said.
Some were carrying pepper spray on them.
“Even on public transportation, I’m scared to even ride trains and buses,” Olu Brooks said.
SEPTA police also has a bigger presence following the attack.
If you have any information, you’re urged to call 215-686-TIPS.
