Labelle woman faces animal cruelty charges for leaving dogs chained and malnourished

LABELLE, Fla. – A Florida woman has been arrested after deputies found several severely malnourished dogs living in poor conditions.

The Glade County Sheriff’s Office responded to an animal complaint following a reference from a Federal Probation Officer who had conducted a previous home visit.

During an inspection of the scene, authorities found a pit bull chained to a makeshift doghouse with a padlock chained around its neck. A female German shepherd was also found secured by multiple chains and a padlock to the stump of a tree.

In both cases, the dogs appeared malnourished and had their ribs protruding from their sides. Neither dog had access to food or water.

Also on site was a female Labrador and four puppies the dogs owner said belonged to her. All the dogs again seemed malnourished and appeared to be in poor health, with rib cages and tail bones clearly visible.

One puppy appeared to be blind in both eyes, while another had a large red patch with missing hair on its shoulder.

The dogs owner, Katherine Wilson, stated that she did not believe the dogs were in poor health or in danger.

Wilson is being charged with four felony counts animal cruelty. She has been booked into the Glades County Jail.
