TROY, N.Y. — Tyler Valentine, 30, previously of Troy, was sentenced in Rensselaer County Court, Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced in a press release.
Valentine pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Cruelty to animals and was sentenced by Judge Debra Young to forty-five days in the Rensselaer County jail with five years of post-release supervision, officials said. Valentine allowed three dogs, four cats, a bearded dragon and a ferret to perish under his care in November 2021.
“These animals relied on the defendant to provide basic care, instead he allowed them to waste away,” Donnelly said in the release. “I have seen an increase in animal abuse cases in Rensselaer County…The DA’s office is pleased to host a training this week at HVCC in order to equip our Rensselaer County Animal Control Officers and Law Enforcement Officers with the knowledge and resources necessary to handle these very complex cases.”
