North Augusta man charged with cruelty to children

A North Augusta man has been accused of hitting a juvenile with an electrical cord. 

Aiken County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Adonay Perez Cordova, 37, on July 16. 

A juvenile told the deputy  that Cordova hit him with an electrical cord between Oct. 19, 2021 and Oct. 21, 2021 at a residence near North Augusta. 

Additional information about the juvenile and the residence where he was allegedly struck has been redacted from the report. 

The deputy observed injuries to the juvenile’s arm, thigh and neck, according to a report filed Oct. 21, 2021. 

Cordova has been charged with cruelty to children. 

Cruelty to children is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in prison and/or a fine of up to $200 or as set by a magistrate. 

An Aiken County magistrate denied bond, according to Aiken County detention center records.  

Cordova is expected to make a first appearance in court on Sept. 20, according to Aiken County General Sessions records
