Burbank
ILLEGAL GUN: A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested July 6 after threatening another customer with a 9 mm handgun in the checkout line at Family Dollar, 8014 Cicero Ave., police said. Jerome D. Redmond, 27, Chicago, was accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault after officers interviewed witnesses, recovered the loaded weapon and determined Redmond had been denied a state gun permit, police said.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: William A. Cubero, 60, 5100 block of 79th Street, Burbank, was arrested July 18 in that block after physically attacking a Burbank fire engineer and subsequently charged with aggravated battery to a firefighter, police said.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: An officer investigating an early morning July 20 burglary at Smoke & Vapes, 4846 79th St., found glass broken out of the main entrance door and merchandise on the floor.
Chicago Ridge
ILLEGAL GUN: Mohammad M. Shawar, 21, Worth, was arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered a loaded handgun and determined he lacked a concealed carry license during a July 7 traffic stop in the 12100 block of Ridgeland Avenue, police said.
RECKLESS CONDUCT: Marius T. Huntley, 28, South Holland, was arrested and accused of reckless conduct and criminal damage to government property July 16 in the 100 block of Chicago Ridge Mall after driving into a police squad car while attempting to flee an investigation, police said.
DUI CRASH: Nestor Soto, 45, Chicago, was arrested after his release from a hospital and accused of drunken driving in connection with a July 17 crash in the 10000 block of Harlem Avenue, police said.
AGGRAVATED FLEEING: A Chicago woman was arrested July 20 and accused of aggravated fleeing and driving on a suspended license after officers caught up with her at a motel in the 10600 block of Harlem Avenue, police said. Madelyn R. Neace, 28, at Southwest Highway and Ridgeland Avenue, led officers on a 2-mile chase when they initially attempted to ticket her, police said.
Crete
POLICE CRASH: A Crete police officer was transported to Franciscan Medical Center in Olympia Fields Monday morning after his squad was hit in the intersection of Route 394 and Richton Road, causing it to roll over, according to Steger police. The Crete officer, traveling west, was responding to an emergency call with lights and siren activated when the squad was struck by a southbound car driven by Richard J. Orelik, 78, Beecher, who was cited for failure to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle, police said.
Homewood
ELDER ABUSE: Teria Smith, 29, 500 block of Hickok Avenue, University Park, was arrested July 11 in the 19000 block of Halsted Street and charged with aggravated battery to a person 60 years or older in connection for allegedly, in the role of caregiver, scratching and punching someone April 12, police said.
New Lenox
ROCK THROWING: Two youths accused of throwing rocks from the SouthWest Service Metra tracks above Lincoln Highway near Cooper Road were taken into custody July 17 in connection with complaints of vehicular damage, police said.
WRONG PEDAL: A teenaged driver who mistakenly depressed the gas pedal instead of the brake July 20 went over the parking block and into the glass storefront of the building that houses Pizza Mia and Raffy’s Candy Store, police said. The impact damaged both businesses but the structure remained stable and no one was hurt, police said.
AGGRAVATED DUI: Olay Escalona-Fuentes, 38, 4400 block of Grove Street, Blue Island, was arrested and accused of aggravated drunken driving July 21 at Lincoln Highway and Nelson Road, after an officer determined he was drunk and never issued a driver’s license, police said.
Oak Lawn
PROPERTY DAMAGE: Police say a lone individual who spray painted motor vehicles focused on the area between Cicero and Laramie avenues and between 107th and 111th streets. Officers discovered the vandalism early Sunday morning, finding many of the cars tagged with “BLM” or “Crack.” Video surveillance systems captured images of the suspect, who was on foot, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: Jkwon K. Coleman, 19, and Brandon R. Singleton, 20, both Chicago, were arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers recovered two handguns in a car driven by Tyran L. Johnson, 18, Chicago, during a July 20 stolen-vehicle stop in the 2500 block of 95th Street, police said. Johnson was arrested and accused of possessing a stolen motor vehicle, police said.
ROBBERY: A would-be July 17 person-to-person sale of an iPhone 15 in a retailer’s parking lot in the 2500 block of 95th Street turned into a robbery when the buyer snatched the phone and fled in a sport utility vehicle, police said.
FRAUD: Bridney S. Stevens, 29, Chicago, was arrested July 18 at the 95th & Cicero Currency Exchange and accused of possessing fraudulent identification after she attempted to use a fake ID to cash a $29,347 check, police said.
Orland Park
ILLEGAL GUN: Omarion Youghbor, 19, Gary, Indiana, was arrested June 23 in a restaurant parking lot in the 15000 block of La Grange Road and accused of unlawful use of a weapon and illegally possessing ammunition after officers recovered a loaded rifle and a plastic sandwich bag containing 17 NATO 5.56 cartridges in his vehicle and determined he lacked Illinois gun permits, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: Les L. Conley Jr., 19, 21200 Oak Street, Matteson, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon during a June 28 traffic stop at 156th Street and La Grange Road after officers recovered a 9 mm handgun, police said.
BATTERY: Hayat A. Abouelkheir, 42, 14700 Arboretum Drive, Homer Glen, was accused of battery July 5 at Macy’s, 1 Orland Square Drive, after intentionally cutting an employee’s finger during a “pinky promise” that he wouldn’t have her vehicle towed after she took merchandise selling for $710, police said. Responding officers towed Abouelkheir’s vehicle, which was parked alongside the curb with the hazard flashers on, police said.
Park Forest
ARMED YOUTH: Officers taking a 17-year-old into custody recovered a loaded handgun from his waistband before he started to actively resist, police said. Police declined to provide more details, citing the arrestee’s age.
Tinley Park
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: A 27-year-old Tinley Park man who severely beat a New Lenox man in May 2022 could be sentenced to two to five years in prison when he returns to court in September, according to Will County court records online. Jacob M. Bean, 8600 block of Brookside Glen Drive, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery July 11, court records show.
IDENTITY THEFT: Devante J. Shinaul, 36, 200 block of Mantua Street, Park Forest, was taken into custody July 18 by Will County deputies on a Tinley Park warrant charging him with two counts of identity theft in December 2022, one count of identity theft in January 2023 and one count of burglary in January 2023, according to sheriff’s police and court records online.
RUBBISH FIRE: A blazing rubbish bin at Andrew High School around 3 p.m. didn’t damage the building or disrupt activities before it was extinguished by Tinley Park firefighters in 40 minutes, police said.
