Bret Michaels meets Bret Michaels: Rock star adopts hero dog

The rock star Bret Michaels is now the proud owner of the hero dog formerly named Bret Michaels.

The Poison frontman and the Nebraska Humane Society announced the 6-year-old husky mix has been adopted by his namesake. Michaels and the dog, who has since been renamed to Li’l Bret Junior, came together after the singer expressed interest in adopting the canine.

Michaels’ interest was sparked by a story last month on how the canine’s blood saved a month-old kitten’s life.

The kitten, who is now named Thorn after the Poison song “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” had suffered from flea anemia. Thorn survived following a blood transfusion from the canine. Thorn was originally brought in as a stray along with sibling kittens.

Michaels is a self-proclaimed dog lover who had been grieving the recent death of his beloved German shepherd.

Pam Wiese, a spokeswoman for the humane society, said Friday that a representative of Michaels picked up Li’l Bret Junior a couple of weeks ago. The representative is working with the husky mix to integrate him with Michaels’ two other German shepherds.

Based on the rock star’s social media posts, it appears everything is going well.

“Such a good day for my soul, to hang out with Li’l Bret Junior,” Michaels wrote, adding the dog is “healthy and running around like crazy.”

Meanwhile, Wiese said Thorn “is doing very well” and is living in foster care.

“He’s now is as fat and happy as his two brothers are,” she said.
