Dog rescuer earns hero’s welcome

A heroic teen who recently came to the aid of a drowning 2-year-old Doberman was universally praised by elected officials and government staff members during the Jan. 10 Goose Creek City Council meeting.

Mayor Gregory Habib promised that the City will soon formally honor the selfless Christopher Riley, 16, in the very near future for saving the life of a wayward canine who ventured outside his owner’s Woodland Lakes residence and reportedly jumped into a pond, located behind the police station.

“He went down with her and saved her life,” recounted Donna Lee in describing the quick-thinking teen’s actions who was fishing upon spotting young Alex descending into the local body of water on Nov. 25.

Lee had reportedly been searching for her canine companion for hours, according to reports, prior to being informed by Berkeley County Animal Center of Alex’s brush with death.

The lucky tailwagger was subsequently passed off to police, who delivered Alex back to Lee.

“He not only saved a dog, but he saved a family,” observed Habib in acknowledging how painful it would have been for Lee and others if the dog had been left to her own devices.
