Galloway Township’s Mara Justine makes it to semifinals of ‘The Voice’

The viewing audience voted Tuesday to move Galloway Township’s Mara Justine into the semifinals of the reality TV singing competition “The Voice,” where she will sing live next Monday.

After the first round of competition ended, the blind auditions, there were 55 other vocalists Justine was competing against. By Monday, there were 12. Only nine of those singers will continue on in the contest to next week.

All 12 singers stood across the stage when the show started at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Justine, 21, was fourth from the left.

Justine is a member of former One Direction member and solo artist Niall Horan’s team. She stood with her fellow team members, Huntley from Florida and Nini Iris from Georgia. Before her name was announced, Huntley put his arms around the shoulders of Justine and Iris.

Millions of people were set to tune in at 8 p.m. Monday for the first live performances of the 12 finalists, including Galloway Township’s Mara Justine, participating in the current season of “The Voice,” a reality-TV singing contest.

Justine’s was the fourth name announced by host Carson Daly to move on to the next round of competition at 9:14 p.m. Justine hugged Horan, clasped the hands of her former coach, John Legend, and blew a kiss to the viewers watching the show live in their homes.

All of the members of Horan’s team made it to the semifinals.

Before Justine knew she would be continuing on the show, Daly asked a question about how Horan’s coaching helped her find her voice.

“Niall has helped me so much with so many different things. Just his presence alone is so calming. I feel like him really believing in me has really helped with my confidence on stage, and I’m thankful that that shows, and I’m just happy to be on his team,” Justine said.

The semifinals start at 8 p.m. Monday at Universal Studios in Hollywood, California, on WCAU-TV 10 out of Philadelphia. The results for the semifinals air at 9 p.m. next Tuesday. “The Voice” season 24 finale performances will air at 8 p.m. Dec. 18. The finale live results show will run from 9 to 11 p.m. Dec. 19. The grand prize is a recording contract.
