Car accidents are truly terrifying, especially since most of us drive on a daily basis. You never know what might happen when you get on the road. For a woman in Gloucester County, Virginia, she could have easily been killed after her SUV overturned.

As a police officer went to check out the scene, he heard the woman’s son screaming. “She’s trapped under the sunroof!” The mom was able to talk, but was having difficulty. “I can’t breathe,” she said.

Fearing that he might not be able to save her, the officer went to comfort the son, who was also in high distress seeing his mom in such a terrifying situation. But then the officer tried to perform the impossible — and it worked.

By pressing his shoulder into the doorframe of the vehicle, he lifted the 3,500-pound car up so that the woman had the headspace to get out. “That was enough to free her,” he said.

That deputy, named Jon Holt, did everything he could to save her life. And this isn’t the first time that Deputy Holt thought on his feet to help save someone. In 2020, he saved two people from a house fire. That earned him both the local and regional Top Cop Awards from the Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Line, according to People.

“Deputy Holt never ceases to amaze us and has the unique ability of being in the right place at the right time,” said Sheriff Darrell W. Warren Jr. in a statement to the publication. “Holt recently received the ‘Top Cop Award’ for our entire regional based on his rescue of two disabled individuals in a structure fire. A few years prior, he used his department-issued AED to save the life of a highway worker who had collapsed on the side of the road after suffering a major heart attack. As you can see in the video of the accident, Holt is calm in the chaos, confident and very professional.”
