Rebecca Rhodes is a recent victim of the country club break-ins. She noticed something unusual about her unit when she tried to retrieve her cart for a night out.

“We came here Halloween night because we were going to take our golf cart trick-or-treating,” she said. “We noticed that there was a different lock on our shed.”

When she saw the new lock, she contacted the club. They informed her that all members were responsible for their own locks and that they never cut them for entry. She took matters into her own hands and cut the lock on the unit.

“When we cut it off, we opened the shed and our golf cart was not in there,” she explained.

The cart is red with custom black wheels and a seat that folds into extra space. Rhodes said it cost nearly $7,000 and believes the thieves used it as a getaway cart.

“Our golf cart seat lets down,” she said. “So they used our golf cart to steal other people’s items.”

Adam Webb is a golf specialist at the country club. According to him, the thefts are negatively affecting him and other members.

“It’s affecting our membership. And we feel like at our club, we’re a family here, so anytime it affects our members, it affects us. So we’re doing everything we can to help our members out,” Webb said.

He said since the break-in, the club has added extra security measures to protect members’ property and catch those responsible for the thefts.

“We’ve set up camera systems down here now,” he said. “So there are ten cameras up around here that we put up, and the Calvert City police has ramped up security in this area.”
