Group Offers Reward in Pottstown Theft, Fraud

POTTSTOWN PA – A cash reward is being offered by the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers organization to eligible tipsters offering information to identify a woman (at top) who, the Pottstown Police Department alleges, stole a victim’s purse and identification information during January at a local gym.

The same woman this month fraudulently used that identity in attempts to cash checks at financial institutions in the borough and Gilbertsville, they added. The Crime Stoppers’ reward was announced Friday (March 18, 2022) on its CrimeWatch website.

Police reported the purse theft occurred Jan. 27 while the victim was inside a State Street gym. The woman being sought tried to cash checks using the stolen identification at the Diamond Credit Union branch office in Pottstown, and its Boyertown branch in Gilbertsville. The suspect was driving a black Kia-brand sports utility vehicle.

Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers accepts tips toll-free by phone at 1-800-472-8477, or anonymously online here, the organization said. Rewards must lead to an arrest in, help find a fugitive in, or assist in solving the alleged theft. Information on the incident, although accurate when released, may later be changed or updated, it noted.
