Man Shot, Killed At Houston Gas Station Over Dog Dispute: Police

HOUSTON, TX — A man was killed during a shooting at an east Houston gas station Tuesday night over a dispute regarding his friend’s stolen dog, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was shot in the leg and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lt. Robert Minchew of the Sheriff’s Office’s homicide unit. The shooting took place at a Murphy USA gas station in the parking lot of the Walmart at the corner of Beltway 8 and Wallisville Road, according to authorities.

Investigators are searching for three suspects who were driving a black Chrysler 300 sedan after a fight broke out between them and the victim and his friend, Minchew said.

The suspects, who are believed to be light-complexioned black men, are accused of stealing multiple dogs from a breeder/kennel and contacting the owner to return the dog for a reward, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet. A meeting was arranged at the gas station where the fight broke out.

The dog owner, who fled to the Walmart, was detained and interviewed, but charges are not expected to be brought against him, Minchew said.
