‘Nobody ever came forward,’: Police, man’s friends hoping for answers in cold case murder

Eight years after a 30-year-old man’s murder, his friends are still hoping for justice.Markquis Walker died on Sept. 5, 2014.Police believe the killer assaulted him while trying to steal his car near 24th and Pratt Streets.“Markquis was a fantastic rapper, you know, and he was loved by everybody,” said Andre Davis.So it came as a shock when the 30-year-old was killed, his vibrant, well-known car stolen from him.“They took somebody’s life that didn’t need to be taken. For nothing. And it was pointless,” said Ginger Davis.Walker was attacked late at night near 24th and Pratt Streets.Police said he was conscious when they found him, but couldn’t speak, or name his killer.The car was later found near 48th and Kansas Streets with seemingly nothing missing.”(It’s) just sad because he was a positive person. He’s always nice to everybody. Very humble,” Ginger Davis said.Family and friends gathered in the days after to pray for justice.Six months later, police said they couldn’t find a motive and the case went cold.”Nobody ever came forward on anything, you know? And I believe they should have,” said Andre Davis.Eight years later and there are still no answers.“He was somebody’s son, brother, uncle.
