Stolen car rammed into Liberty gun store before burglary

Local and federal authorities are investigating and owners are left picking up the pieces after burglars used a stolen car to ram through the front of a Liberty gun store Tuesday morning.A post to the Adventure Outdoors sporting goods store’s Facebook Page said that “a couple of young cowards” drove a car through the store on Main Street around 3:56 a.m. Tuesday. Security video from inside the store shows a masked figure peering into the front of the store. A few seconds later, a vehicle is rammed through the front doors. That’s when two people push their way out of the car and go to work, taking guns from inside the business. At one point, the suspects ran outside with the stolen guns before coming back with a sledgehammer to do more damage. In all, the suspects were in and out of the store in around two minutes. Officials with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the burglars got away with an unknown number of guns. Liberty, Missouri, police said the vehicle used in the burglary, which appeared to have been left behind when suspects fled, had been reported stolen.A spokesperson for the Kansas City field division of the ATF said incidents like these are especially concerning. “Individuals that steal firearms commit violent crimes with the stolen guns, provide stolen firearms to others who commit crimes, and provided firearms to those who are prohibited by law from possessing a gun,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Stolen firearms are crime guns; they fuel illicit trafficking and are used by violent criminals to terrorize our communities.”The ATF went on to say stolen firearms pose a threat to community safety and law enforcement partners.Anyone with information on this incident, or the whereabouts of the guns taken in the burglary, should contact ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (800-283-4867), email ATFTips@atf.gov, contact ATF through its website at www.atf.gov/contact/atftips, or text ATFKC to 63975 and follow the prompts.
